
Aurora Orchestra to Present ‘Memory with Lotte Betts-Dean and Brett Dean’

The showcase will feature the father and daughter pairing of composer-conductor Brett Dean and mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean as they present a program that features Aaron Copland’s “Simple Gifts,” John Adams’ “Shaker Loops,” Molly Drake’s “I Remember,” Radiohead’s “Harry Patch (In Memory Of),” Charles Ives’ “Memories” and “The Unanswered Question,” Ravel’s “Menuet” from “Le tombeau de Couperin,” Caroline Shaw’s “Cant voi l’aube,” Thomas Adès’ arrangement of Couperin’s “Les Barricades Mystérieuses,” György Kurtág’s “Ligatura–Message to Frances-Maria and Kafka-Fragmente,” Kurt Weill’s “Nanna’s Lied,” Nadia Boulanger’s “Versailles,” and Brett Dean’s own “Epitaphs I: Only I Will Know and VI. Locket from Recollections.”
Betts-Dean is the 2024 winner of the Young Artist of the Year Award at the RPS Awards who has established herself as a leading interpreter of contemporary music, opera, art song, and chamber repertoire, giving over 30 world premieres and performing at major festivals and venues worldwide. She is also an advocate for gender equality in music and was named an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2022. Betts-Dean has won multiple international awards, performed with ensembles including EXAUDI, Explore Ensemble, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, among others.
