Aurelia Florian, John Moore Among Stars of Portland Opera’s 2018-19 Season

The Portland Opera has announced its 2018-19 season, which five opera productions.

“Each opera in the 2018/19 season brings us on a journey – whether that journey is across land, into the arms of love, or an internal journey into self-acceptance and belonging,” says General Director Christopher Mattaliano in a press release. “These stories inspire us time and time again. We can’t wait to share these moments with the Portland community.”

The season kicks off with Verdi’s “La Traviata” which will star Aurelia Florian, Jonathan Boyd, and West Hurt. Christopher Larkin conducts a production by Elise Sandell.

Performance Dates: Nov. 2-10, 2018

The increasingly popular Laura Kaminsky’s “As One” appears in 2019 with Hannah S. Penn and Alexander Elliott as Hanna after and Hanna before, respectively. Andreas Mitisek conducts and directs the production.

Performance Dates: March 22-30, 2019

Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” appears with John Moore, Jack Swanson, Aleksandra Romano, Eduardo Chama, Adam Lau, and Antonia Tamer. George Manahan conducts a production by Mattaliano.

Performance Dates: June 7-15, 2019

Mozart’s “La Finta Giardiniera” gets a showcase with Lindsay Ohse, Thomas Cilluffo, Mark Thomsen, Antonia Tamer, Camille Sherman, Helen Huang, and Geoffrey Schellenberg. Manahan conducts while Chas Rader-Shieber directs.

Performance Dates: July 12-27, 2019

Philip Glass’ “In the Penal Code” gets a showcase with Martin Bakari and Ryan Thorn starring. Nicholas Fox conducts the production directed by Jerry Mouawad. 

Performance Dates: July 26-30; August 1-10, 2019

The company will also showcase its annual “Big Night 2019,” which will star Aleksandra Romano, John Moore, and Matthew Grills, as well as the 2018-19 Portland Resident Artists.
