August Ventura to Bring ‘On Golden Wings: Exploring Verdi’s Enduring Legacy’ to UN

By David Salazar

Author and filmmaker August Ventura is set to bring his presentation “On Golden Wings: Exploring Verdi’s Enduring Legacy” to the Hospitality Committee for United Nations Delegations on Oct. 27, 2021.

In a press release, Ventura posits two questions – does traditional opera still hold meaning in our “disruptive” times? And can it thus be an agent of social and political change? Ventura frames the discussion around the famed Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi’s own revolutionary power during Italy’s Risorgimento and how his works remain relevant to this day.

Ventura is a devotee to the works of Verdi and has presented his work on the composer at the Knickerbocker Club, the National Arts Club, the Italian Culture Institute in Chicago, Sarasota Opera, Teatro Regio, the Metropolitan Opera Club, the National Opera Center, the Century Club, BAM Cinematek, and Film Forum, among other venues.

The presentation is set to kick off at 11 a.m. ET.
