Asmik Grigorian, Kate Lindsey, Jonathan Tetelman, Benjamin Bernheim, Elīna Garanča, Lisette Oropesa & Juan Diego Flórez Lead Salzburg Festival’s 2026 Season

The Salzburg Festival has announced its 2026 season. Here is a look at the vocal performances.

Franck Ollu conducts Pascal Dusapin and Rita de Letteriis’s “Passion” starring Sarah Aristidou, Georg Nigl, and Schola Heidelberg.

Performance Date: July 23, 2026


Asmik Grigorian stars as Bizet’s “Carmen” alongside Jonathan Tetelman, Kristina Mkhitaryan, and Davide Luciano. Teodor Currentzis conducts the production by Gabriela Carrizo (Peeping Tom).

Performance Dates: July 26-August 26, 2026


Alain Altinoglu conducts Massenet’s “Werther” with Benjamin Bernheim, Marianne Crebassa, Sandra Hamaoui, and Andrey Zhilikhovsky.

Performance Dates: July 29-August 1, 2026


Adam Fischer conducts a semi-staged version of Mozart’s “Lucio Silla” by Birgit Kajtna-Wönig. The cast includes Giovanni Sala, Sara Blanch, Xenia Puskarz, Martina Russomanno, and Lilit Davtyan.

Performance Date: August 2, 2026


Kate Lindsey, Elīna Garanča, Eric Cutler, Ziyi Dai, and Leon Košavić star in Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” with Manfred Honeck conducting. Ersan Mondtag directs.

Performance Dates: August 2-28, 2026


Lauranne Oliva, Philippe Sly, Sean Panikkar, Russell Braun, Léo Vermot-Desroches, Aaron-Casey Gould, and Willard White star in Olivier Messiaen’s “Saint Francois d’Assise.” Maxime Pascal conducts the production by Romeo Castellucci.

Performance Dates: August 4-23, 2026


Rossini’s “Il Viaggio a Reims” will be conducted by Gianluca Capuano and directed by Barrie Kosky. The ensemble cast will include Cecilia Bartoli, Marina Viotti, Mélissa Petit, Tara Erraught, Edgardo Rocha, Dmitry Korchak, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Florian Sempey, Misha Kiria, Peter Kellner, Giovanni Romeo, Helena Rasker, Rodolphe Briand, and Rafał Pawnuk.

Performance Dates: August 5-16, 2026


Joana Mallwitz conducts Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” in a production by Christof Loy. The cast includes Elsa Dreisig, Victoria Karkacheva, Andrè Schuen, Bogdan Volkov, Lea Desandre, and Johannes Martin Kränzle.

Performance Dates: August 6-29, 2026


Henze’s “Der Prinz von Homburg” will star Maximilian Schmitt, Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, Kathrin Zukowski, Lauri Vasar, Georg Nigl, Anthony Robin Schneider, and Magnus Dietrich. Ingo Metzmacher conducts.

Matthias Goerne and Markus Hinterhäuser perform Schubert.

Konstantin Krimmel and Ammiel Bushakevitz perform music by Schumann, Brahms, and Mandyczewski.

Kate Lindsey brings her Thousands of Miles recital with Baptiste Trotignon.

Canto Lirico

Michael Spyres and il Pomo d’Oro perform Handel, Vivaldi, Galuppi, Porporra, Rameau, Mazzoni, and Hasse.

Lea Desandre leads a concert that includes Nicolas Altstaedt, Bruno Philippe, Ensemble Jupiter, and Thomas Dunford.  The program includes music Vivaldi.

Lisette Oropesa and Rubén Fernández Aguirre perform music by Albeniz, Granados, Barbieri, Lecuona, Roig, Rodrigo, and Falla.

Performance Date: August 18, 2026


Juan Diego Flórez and Vincenzo Scalera lead a program that includes music by Gioachino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini, Gaetano Donizetti, Jules Massenet, Giuseppe Verdi, François-Adrien Boieldieu and others.

Performance Date: August 30, 2026


Concerts 

The Utopia Choir and Utopia Orchestra lead a program that includes Part and Kurtag. Teodor Currentzis conducts.

Bach’s Mass in B minor will star Perrine Devillers, Sophia Faltas, Kristen Witmer, Victoria Cassano, William Shelton, Raffaele Giordani, Jonathan Hanley, Sebastian Myrus, and Felix Schwandtke. Lionel Meunier conducts the Vox Luminis.

The Cantando Admont alongside PHACE and Cordula Bürgi perform music by Morales and Huber.

Amandine Beyer, Francesco Piemontesi, and Vox Luminis perform Biber and Liszt. Lionel Meunier conducts.

La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations perform Allegri, Carissmi, Mozart, Charpentier, and Vivaldi. Jordi Savall conducts.

Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Cantando Admont, and Cordula Bürgi and Klangforum Wien perform music by Mansurian, Byrd, Fiser, Desprez, and Ustvolskaya.

Ying Fang and Nadezhda Karyazina star in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with Vienna Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel.

Dalia Schaechter, Cantando Admont, Klangforum Wien, and Matthias Pintscher lead a program that includes Kurtag and Feldman.

Performance Date: July 30, 2026


Anna Prohaska, Noa Frenkel, Jürgen Ruck, Johannes Piirto, and Florian Bogner lead a concert that includes Nono, Kurtag, and Grisey. The Klangforum Wien will be conducted by Matthias Pintscher.

Julia Lezhneva and Carlo Vistoli lead a program of Haydn and Pergolesi with Le Concert d’Astrée and Emmanuelle Haïm.

Mozart’s Missa in C minor will star Serena Sáenz, Agnes Kovacs, Bobbie Blommesteijn, Jakob Pilgram, and Daniel Ochoa. Thomas Hengelbrock conducts the Balthasar-Neumann-Chor and Camerata Salzburg.

Johanna Vargas, Helēna Sorokina, Hugo Queirós, Klangforum Wien, and Emilio Pomàrico lead a program of music by Grisey and Verunelli.

Iwona Sobotka, Marianne Crebassa, Michael Spyres, and Maharram Huseynov star in Verdi’s Requiem. Riccardo Muti conducts the Vienna Philharmonic.

Hanna-Elisabeth Müller leads a program of Zimmerman, Mahler, and Tchaikovsky with ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and Christian Blex.

Iveta Simonyan, Matthias Winckhler, Elliot Simpson, Vilde Frang, Utopia Choir, Vitaly Polonsky Chorus Master, and Utopia Orchestra lead a program that includes Kurtag, Berg and Brahms. Teodor Currentzis conducts.
