Asmik Grigorian, Andrè Schuen, Michael Spyres & Renée Fleming Lead Salzburg Festival’s 2023 Season

The Salzburg Festival has announced its 2023 season featuring operas, concerts, recitals, and Mozart programs.

Opera

Raphaël Pichon will conduct Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” in a new production by Martin Kušej. Andrè Schuen, Adriana González, Sabine Devieilhe, Krzysztof Bączyk, and Lea Desandre star.

Performance Dates: July 27-August 28, 2023

Verdi’s “Macbeth” will be conducted by Franz Welser-Möst and directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski. Vladislav Sulimsky stars in the title role alongside Tareq Nazmi, Asmik Grigorian, and Jonathan Tetelman.

Performance Dates: July 29-August 24, 2023

Gianluca Capuano conducts Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” with Christof Loy directing. Cecilia Bartoli, Mélissa Petit, and Madison Nonoa star.

Performance Dates: August 4-14, 2023

Verdi’s “Falstaff” is set to star Gerald Finley, Simon Keenlyside, Bogdan Volkov, Elena Stikhina, Ying Fang, Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, and Cecilia Molinari. Ingo Metzmacher conducts the Christoph Marthaler production.

Performance Dates: August 12-30, 2023

Martinů’s “The Greek Passion” will be conducted by Maxime Pascal and directed by Simon Stone. Gábor Bretz, Matthäus Schmidlechner, Charles Workman, Sebastian Kohlhepp, Julian Hubbard, Aljoscha Lennert, Sara Jakubiak, Christina Gansch, Helena Rasker, Łukasz Goliński, and Scott Wilde.

Performance Dates: August 13-27, 2023

Teodor Currentzis conducts Purcell’s “The Indian Queen” with Jeanine De Bique, Julian Prégardien, Rachel Redmond, Jarrett Ott, Andrey Nemzer, and Amira Casar.

Performance Dates: July 31 & August 2, 2023

Marco Armiliato conducts Bellini’s “I Capuleti e Montecchi” with a cast that includes Michele Pertusi, Elsa Dreisig, Aigul Akhmetshina, Pene Pati, and Roberto Tagliavini.

Performance Dates: August 19 & 21, 2023

John Eliot Gardiner conducts Berlioz’s “Les Troyens” with Michael Spyres, Lionel Lhote, Ashley Riches, William Thomas, Laurence Kilsby, Alice Coote, Paula Murrihy, Adèle Charvet, and Beth Taylor.

Concerts 

Alexander Bauer, Florian Müller, and Katrien Baerts star in “In nomine lucis” conducted by Ilan Volkov.

Performance Date: July 22, 2023

Petra Müllejans and the Vox Luminis highlight a concert entitled “Biber-Requiem” conducted by Lionel Meunier.

The “Wo bist du Licht!” concert will include Cantando Admont and Annika Schlicht.

Ying Fang, Emily D‘Angelo, Bogdan Volkov, and William Thomas will perform Mozart’s Requiem with Manfred Honeck conducting. The concert also includes György Ligeti ‘s Lux aeterna für Chor a cappella.

Luciano’s Notturno and Sciarrino’s Infinito Nero will be performed Minguet Quartett with Annika Schlicht, Klangforum Wien, and Bas Wiegers conducting.

Haydn’s “Die Schöpfung”  will be performed by Flore Van Meerssche, Mingjie Lei, and Matthias Winckhler. Le Concert des Nations is set to be conducted by Jordi Savall.

Brahms’ Requiem will be sung by Elsa Dreisig and Michael Volle. Christian Thielemann conducts.

Alban Berg’s  Violin Concerto and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 will be performed by Augustin Hadelich and Christiane Karg. Andris Nelsons conducts.

Wolfgang A. Mozart’s Missa c-Moll will be performed by Nadezhda Pavlova, Rachel Redmond, Mingjie Lei, and Matthias Winckhler. Utopia Chor und Orchester will be conducted by Teodor Currentzis.

Riccardo Muti conducts Giuseppe Verdi’s “Stabat Mater,” “Te Deum,” and “Quattro pezzi sacri” and Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7.
