By Francisco Salazar

Arturo Chacón-Cruz received the premio Plácido Domingo at the LA Opera.

The award was given to the tenor by the Hispanics for Los Angeles Opera organization and by Domingo himself after a performance of “El Gato Montés.”

“I am honored to receive an award from maestro Plácido Domingo, who has been my mentor and maetsro for so many years! I feel honored to be his friend and artistic godson,” Chacón-Cruz stated.

The tenor is currently performing alongside Domingo in “El Gato Montes” and is set to return to the Liceu in the summer for Verdi’s “Luisa Miller.” He will also go on tour with Domingo for Noches de Zarzuela before returning to the Houston Grand Opera for “Rigoletto.”

“El Gato Montes” continues at the LA Opera through May 19 and also stars Nancy Fabiola Herrera and Ana Maria Martinez.
