This week, the Teatro La Fenice opens a new production of Donizetti’s masterpiece “Anna Bolena” featuring a cast of Bel Canto specialists. Leading the cast is Russian soprano Lidia Fridman.
Over the years, the rising star soprano has made a name for herself in the Bel Canto repertoire since her breakout at the Donizetti opera Festival singing “L’Ange de Nisida.” Since then, she has world premiered Donizetti’s “Dalinda” and made role debuts as “Lucrezia Borgia” and “Norma.” She has also specialized in early Verdi works as “Nabucco,” “Macbeth,” and “I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata,” among others.
Critics have raved about Fridman, stating she has “a line with a characteristic dark color and a luxuriant emission” and “a confident and well-projected high register.”
Audiences not in Venice for the role debut will be able to listen via Rai Radio 3 on April 1, 2025. Fridman is also making her role debut in “Wozzeck” in Venice and will make her Wiener Staatsoper debut in “Norma.”
