American Soprano Makes her Toledo Opera Debut in ‘Blue’

This week the Toledo Opera is set to present the company premiere of Tazewell Thompson and Jeanine Tesori’st timely work “Blue.” The work will feature a diverse cast that will include Aundi Marie Moore.

Moore will make her debut with the company portraying the role of the Mother. “The music and words are beautiful, heart breaking and true messages for us all,” the soprano said regarding the work.

A recent winner of the Sphinx Medals of Excellence, Moore is a rising star in the opera world, who has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, L’Opéra de Monte Carlo, Sarasota Opera, Atlanta Opera, Virginia Opera, and Washington National Opera.

Her repertoire is diverse featuring the music of Ricky Ian Gordon, Michael Nyman, D. J. Sparr, and Barber as well as classical composers such as Mozart, Strauss, and Humperdinck, among others.

Moore has won numerous prizes and awards from the National Opera Association, the Bel Canto Vocal Competition, the West Palm Beach Opera Competition, the Rocca della Macie International Voice Competition, the Florida Grand Voice Competition, and the Leontyne Price Vocal Competition.

For audiences not in Toledo to see “Blue,” the soprano will perform the role at the Dutch National Opera this coming season. She is also set to perform with the Grand Rapids Symphony and The Washington Chorus at Wolf Trap Choral Festival.
