Artisan Books to Release ‘Philip Glass Piano Etudes: The Complete Folios 1-20 & Essays from Fellow Artists’ in Fall 2023

Artisan Books will release a whopping nine-pound deluxe boxed set, “Philip Glass Piano Etudes: The Complete Folios 1-20 & Essays from Fellow Artists,” on October 31, 2023. The project, conceived as an heirloom, was supervised and edited by Linda Brumbach and Alisa E. Regas, founders of Pomegranate Arts.

The collection includes The Complete Folios 1-20 and “Studies in Time: Essays on the Music of Philip Glass.” Composer/pianist Timo Andres and Cory Davis from Dunvagen Music—Glass’ music publishing company—have updated the musical notation design.

The folios also display Glass’s original handwritten manuscripts on their covers.

The essays in “Studies in Time” features contributions by a diverse range of artists and creators, including conductor Dennis Russell Davies, opera director Phelim McDermott, and opera director Lucina Childs. Other essay writers includes Alice Waters,  Angélique Kidjo, Ari Shapiro, Ira Glass, Justin Peck, Laurie Anderson, Martin Scorsese, Pico Iyer, Jenny Saville, and Nathan Chen.

Glass is one of the most celebrated modern composers of all time. Among his many works as such operas as ““Einstein on the Beach,” “Satyagraha,” and “Akhnaten.”
