Arizona Opera has announced its 2024 New Works Festival.

The festival kicks off with a party at 5 p.m. on May 10 followed by a preview of the “Zorro” and “Intimate Apparel” and a screening of “The Copper Queen.” On May 11, there will be a panel on how opera gets from page to stage, followed by previews of “Zorro” and “Intimate Apparel.” At the conclusion of the evening will be a talk back. The final day of the festival features previews for “Zorro and “Intimate Apparel,” followed by a talk back and a party.

“Zorro” is set in Los Angeles and re-tells the story of the iconic hero as he fights for the poor and enslaved. Meanwhile,” Intimate Apparel” centers the story of Esther, an African American woman who sews corsets and ladies’ undergarments, that enters into a correspondene with a suitor working on the Panama Canal.

Finally, “The Copper Queen” explores the story of Addison Moore, who following the death of her grandmother, checks into a mysterious hotel room that is the location of a major death a century earlier.
