Württemberg Philharmonic in Reutlingen has announced the appointment of French conductor Ariane Matiakh as its new Chief Conductor.

Matiakh has conducted at such opera houses as the Komische Oper Berlin, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra national du Rhin, Opéra national de Montpellier, and De Nationale Opera, among others. She has also led such orchestras as the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra,  Wiener Symphoniker, ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, Orchestre de Paris, Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, WDR and MDR Symphony Orchestras, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse and Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg.

In September 2018, the Staatskapelle Halle announced the appointment of Matiakh as its new General Music Director. In January 2020, by mutual agreement, Matiakh resigned from her Staatskapelle Halle post.

Reutlingen’s Mayor Thomas Keck described Matiakh’s appointment as an absolute stroke of luck.

Matiakh will assume her new position starting the 2022-23 season. The initial contract is valid for a period of three years.
