Arena di Verona Announces New ‘Rigoletto’ Production

By Francisco Salazar

The Arena di Verona has announced that it will present a new production of “Rigoletto” for its 2023 season.

The new production will be an homage to the Italian neorealist cinema of the 50s. It will be directed by Antonio Albanese, who has previously directed at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, and Filarmonico di Verona.

In a statement, Albanese said, “It’s a real honor to work on this very dramatic work.”

“Rigoletto” will be performed four times with Roman Burdenko, Ludovic Tézier, Luca Salsi, and Amartuvshin Enkhbat sharing the title role. The cast will also include Yusif Eyvazov, Juan Diego Flórez, and Piotr Beczała as the Duke, and Nina Minasyan and Nadine Sierra as Gilda. Marco Armiliato conducts.

The production opens on July 1 and runs through August 4, 2023.
