Arena Di Verona Announces Casting For 2019 Festival

The Arena di Verona has announced its casting for its star-studded 97th annual festival.

La Traviata

Four sopranos will share the leading role of Violetta Valéry, including Aleksandra Kurzak, Irina Lungu, Lisette Oropesa, and Lana Kos, while four tenors will share the role of Alfredo Germont, including Pavel Petrov, Vittorio Grigolo, Raffaele Abete, and Stephen Costello. Leo Nucci, Simone Piazzola, Plácido Domingo, Badral Chuulunbaatar, and Amartuvshin Enkhbat will perform the role of Giorgio Germont. Rounding out the cast are Alessandra Volpe and Clarissa Leonardi as Flora Bervoix; Daniela Mazzucato as Annina; Carlo Bosi and Marcello Nardis as Gastone di Letorieres; Gianfranco Montresor and Nicolò Ceriani as Barone Douphol; Daniel Giulianini and Dario Giorgelè as Marchese d’Obigny; Romano Dal Zovo and Abramo Rosalen as Dottor Grenvil; Max René Cosotti as Giuseppe; and Stephano Rinaldi Miliani as Servant/Commissioner.

Aida

Anna Pirozzi, Tamara Wilson, Maria José Siri, Saioa Hernández, Hui He, and Svetlana Kasyan will share the title role, alongside Murat Karahan, Mikheil Sheshaberidze, Fabio Sartori, Martin Muehle, and Carlo Ventre as Ramadès. They will be joined by Violeta Urmana, Anna Maria Chiuri, Alessandra Volpe, and Judit Kutasi as Amneris; Romano Dal Zovo and Krzysztof Bączyk as The King; Dmitry Belosselskiy, Stephan Kocan, Rafał Siwek, Gianluca Breda, and Abramo Rosalen as Ramfis; Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Sebastian Catana, Badral Chuluunbaatar, and Vitaliy Bilyy as Amonasro; Carlo Bosi, Raffaele Abete, Francesco Pittari, and Antonello Ceron as Messenger; and Yao Bo Hui as High Priestess. Additionally, Petra Conti will appear as a featured dancer.

Il Trovatore

Anna Netrebko and Anna Pirozzi will share the role of Leonora, along with Yusif Eyvazov and Murat Karahan as Manrico. Luca Salsi and Alberto Gazale will both perform as Count di Luna. Dolora Zajick and Violeta Urmana will sing Azucena, Riccardo Fassi and Rafał Siwek will sing Ferrando, Elisabetta Zizzo and Elena Boring will sing Ines. Carlo Bosi will appear as Ruiz, Dario Giorgelè as An Old Gypsy, and Antonello Ceron as Messenger.

Carmen

Starring in the title role will be mezzo-sopranos Ksenia Dudnikova and Géraldine Chauvet, alongside Martin Muehle and Murat Karahan as Don José. The role of Micaela will be shared by Ruth Iniesta, Lana Kos, Karen Gardeazabal, and Mariangela Sicilia. Rounding out the cast are Karen Gardeazabal and Elisabetta Zizzo as Frasquita; Clarissa Leonardi and Mariangela Marini as Mercédès; Erwin Schrott, Vitaliy Bilyy, and Italo Proferisce as Escamillo; Nicolò Ceriani and Gianfranco Montresor as Dancairo; Roberto Covatta and Francesco Pittari as Remendado; Gianluca Breda and Krzysztof Bączyk as Zuniga, and Italo Proferisce, Daniel Giulianini, and Biago Pizzuti as Moralès.

Plácido Domingo 50 Arena Anniversary Night

This special night will feature three works by Verdi: “Nabucco,” “I Due Foscari,” and “Macbeth.” Plácido Domingo will perform with the Arena di Verona Orchestra and Chorus.

Tosca

Saioa Hernández and Hui He will take on the title role, with Yusif Eyvazov and Murat Karahan performing as Cavaradossi. They will be joined by Ambrogio Maestri and Claudio Sgura as Scarpia; Krzysztof Bączyk and Romano Dal Zovo as Angelotti; Biagio Pizzuti as A Sacristan; Roberto Covatta and Francesco Pittari as Spoletta; Nicolò Ceriani as Sciarrone; and Stefano Rinaldi Miliani as A Jailer.
