The Arena di Verona has announced a cast change for its production of Verdi’s “Aida” on June 17, 2023.

The company said that Olesya Petrova will replace Anita Rachvelishvili in the role of Amneris.

Petrova is currently rehearsing for the opening night performance of “Aida” in Verona on June 16. She is set to sing the role throughout July and August in the Arena. The mezzo is also set to return Metropolitan Opera in “Un Ballo in Maschera” this fall.

Petrova joins a cast that includes Yusif Eyvazov, Maria Jose Siri, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Michele Pertusi, and Simon Lim. Marco Armiliato conducts the new production by Stefano Poda.
