Arcola Theatre Announces Grimeborn Opera Festival 2021

The Arcola Theatre in the U.K. has announced its Grimeborn Opera Festival 2021, which will include four opera productions.

First up is Arcola Theatre and Hackney Empire’s presentation Wagner’s “Die Walküre” which will be showcased in a new production by Julia Burbach, as conducted by Peter Selwyn. This performance will feature an adaptation by Graham Vick and Jonathan Dove with an orchestration by Dove.

The opera will star Laure Meloy as Brünnhilde, Finnur Bjarnason as Siegmund, Natasha Jouhl as Sieglinde, Simon Wilding as Hunding, and Mark Stone as Wotan.

Performance Dates: August 4-7, 2021

Marcio da Silva directs Ensemble OrQuesta’s presentation of Händel’s “Alcina” starring Helen May, Kathleen Nic Dhiarmada, Kieran White, Laura Fleur, Maya Wheeler-Colwell, and John Holland-Avery. Stephanie Gurga conducts.

Performance Dates: August 25-29, 2021

Becca Marriott provides the text for “Hopes and Fears,” which features music by Claude Debussy. The opera, which will be presented by The Opera Makers, will be directed by Jorge Balça and conducted by Panaratos Kyriatzidis. The cast includes Becca Marriott, Nina Bennett, Martins Smaukstellis, Lara Martins, Caroline Carragher, and Puls Putnins.

Performance Dates: Sept. 1-4, 2021

Barefoot Opera will present a double bill of “Orfeo ed Euridice” and “Zanetto” in a production directed by Lysanne van Overbeek. Lesley Anne Sammons conducts.

Emma Roberts and Lila Chrisp will both perform as Orfeo and Zanetto with Lizzie Holmes and Victoria Mulley alternating nights as Euridice and Sylvia in the two operas. Finally Laura West appears as Amore.

Performance Dates: Sept. 5-8, 2021
