Aquiles Machado Named Artistic Director of Ópera de A Coruña

The Ópera de A Coruña in Spain has named Aquiles Machado its new Artistic Director.

The Spanish-Venezuelan has been responsible for diverse theaters and companies and was recently the Artistic Director of the educational program Más que Ópera de la Comunidad de Madrid.

In his new position, Machado will help in the growth of the company both quantitatively and qualitatively. He will succeed César L. Wonenburger, who was responsible for initiating multiple projects outside of Oviedo.

Machado is an acclaimed tenor who has performed at the Washington Opera, LA Opera, Teatro Real, and Gran Teatre del Liceu, Metropolitan Opera House, and Teatro alla Scala. His repertoire includes the works of Verdi and Puccini as well as the Verismo and Bel Canto repertoire.
