Antonio Pappano, Leah Hawkins & Markus Werba Lead Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia’s 2020-21 Season

The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Italy has announced its 2020-21 season.

For the purposes of this article, we will only focus on the vocal performances.

The season opens with Gerhild Romberger and Clay Hilley performing Bruckner’s “Te Deum” and Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde.” Antonio Pappano conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 16-18, 2020

Vasily Petrenko and Brian Jagde join forces for an evening that includes Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, Verdi-Berio’s “Otto Romanze,” and Beethoven’s “Leonore III.”

Performance Dates: Nov. 19-21, 2020

Tugan Sokhiev conducts Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem with soloists Golda Schultz and Garry Magee.

Performance Dates: Nov. 26-28, 2020

Trevor Pinnock conducts soloists Robin Johannsen, Catriona Morison, Stuart Jackson, and Luca Pisaroni in Bach’s Oratorio di Natale.

Performance Dates: Dec. 16-19, 2020

Markus Werba performs in a concert featuring Beethoven’s “Coriolano” Overture, Mahler’s “Des Knaben Wunderhorn, and Haydn Symphony No. 100. Daniele Gatti conducts the evening.

Performance Dates: Jan. 7-9, 2021

Daniele Gatti conducts Haydn’s “La Tempesta” and Beethoven’s Symphony No.6. Markus Werba also performs Mahler’s “Des Knaben Wunderhorn.”

Performance Dates: Jan. 14-16, 2021

Antonio Pappano conducts Mendelssohn’s “Elias” with soloists Jennifer Davis, Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Benjamin Bernheim, and Christof Fischesser.

Performance Dates: Jan 28-31, 2021

Valery Gergiev conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with soloists Leah Hawkins, Sara Mingardo, Patrik Reiter, and Andrea Mastroni.

Performance Dates: Feb. 25-27, 2021

Antonio Pappano conducts Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with soloists Julian Prégardien, Carolyn Sampson, Claudia Huckle, and Thomas Tatzl.

Performance Dates: March 4-6, 2021

Rossini “Stabat Mater” is set to be conducted by Myung-Whun Chung with soloists Mariangela Sicilia, Raffaella Lupinacci, Jack Swanson, and Gianluca Buratto. The program also includes Haydn Symphony No. 44.

Performance Dates: April 1-3, 2021

Antonio Pappano conducts Rossini’s Messa di Gloria.

Performance Dates: April 15-17, 2021
