Anthony Roth Costanzo, Missy Mazzoli Headline Alternative Classical’s ‘Humans of Classical Music’ Series

By Logan Martell

Alternative Classical has announced “Humans of Classical Music.”

This new video series will feature musicians, actors, comedians, and podcasters from around the world recommending their favorite pieces of classical music in one minute. A new episode will go live weekly, beginning on February 4, joined by a link to the piece on YouTube or Spotify.

Among the artists engaged with the series are Anthony Roth Costanzo, Anna Clyne, Kieran Hodgson, Ben Glassberg-Frost, Adam Szabo, Gabriel Prokofiev, and Missy Mazzoli.

“It can be difficult for people who are new to classical music to know where to start and what to listen to,” Hannah Fiddy, Co-Founder and Director of Alternative Classical told OperaWire. “By offering one piece a week, I hope that this project offers a fresh and digestible way to explore a mix of pieces through the ears of someone else. Something I hear a lot is that people feel that they don’t know enough about classical music to share an opinion. These relatable, jargon-free videos demonstrate that there is no single way to listen to a piece of classical music, and while we’re all stuck at home, now is the perfect time to find inspiration and solace in the wide-ranging body of music encompassed by the term ‘classical.'”

Alternative Classical promotes new approaches to classical music, with consultancy, creative direction, and artist/project management services. They are also the creators of Concert Roulette, a classical jukebox that has been played in over 90 countries since its launch.
