Anthony Roth Costanzo, Gabriella Reyes, Jennifer Higdon to Headline New York Choral Society’s Virtual Gala
By David SalazarThe New York Choral Society is set to bring its 2021 season to an end with a special gala and the premiere of a new work in two back-to-back virtual events on May 11, 2021.
First up will be “Celebrating Our Voices,” which will feature soprano Gabriella Reyes (who will be live from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera), counter-tenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, and bass-baritone Brandon Cedel.
There will also be an event featuring the chorus’ latest art collaboration “Invitation to Love” created alongside composer Jennifer Higdon and sculptor and performance maker Gordon Hall. The work was composed by Higdon in 2016 and is based on Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem of the same name. The piece will feature 40 singers from the chorus.
“We are excited and grateful to be joined by this amazing group of artists for this wonderful evening of music, creativity, and community to support The New York Choral Society and to celebrate our innovative and inclusive season of great choral music,” said the Board of Trustees Chair Michael Colosi in a press release.
