By Francisco Salazar

The Boston Baroque will present Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea” with a starry cast.

The company announced that soprano Amanda Forsythe will perform the title role alongside countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo making his Boston Baroque debut as Nero. The cast will also include contralto Emily Marvosh as Ottavia, Ryan Belongie as Ottone, tenor Brian Giebler as Arnalta, bass Kevin Langan as Seneca, soprano Maggie Finnegan as Damigella, tenor Jonas Budris as Lucano, and soprano Sonja Tengblad as Drusilla.

The performances will use a new performing edition developed by Martin Pearlman which uses the Venice manuscript as inspiration; this edition was developed by Francesco Cavalli, the celebrated opera composer and boy soprano for Monteverdi in the choir St. Mark’s Basilica.

Performances will take place on April 26 and 28 at the Jordan Hall in a semi-staged production directed by Tara Faircloth.
