Anne Sofie von Otter, Philip Glass & Nicole Heaston Headline Malmö Opera’s 2020-21 Season

The Malmö Opera has announced its 2020-21 season.

The Swedish opera house kicks off its season with “Transformations in Hell.” The opera by composer Isabelle Aboulker and librettist Jean-Pierre Vaguer will be directed by Dite Hammar and stars Tor Lind The, Hanna Fritzson, Linnea Andreassen, and Teresia Books.

Performance Dates: July 25 – August 22, 2020

Next on the slate is Mozart’s “Così Fan Tutte” while will be directed by Jonas Österberg Nilsson and conducted by Bo Wannefors. The cast includes Elisabet Einarsdotti, Annie Fredriksson, Carl Ackerfeldt, Per Lindström, Kristine Nowlain, and Caspar Engdahl.

Performance Dates: Sept. 12 – Nov. 22, 2020 

Lotte de Beer will direct Verdi’s “Falstaff” in an interpretation inspired by George Orwell’s “Animal Farm.” The cast includes Nicole Heaston, Martin Winkler, Orhan Yildiz, Alexandra Flood, and Sehoon Moon, among others.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7, 2020 – Jan. 17, 2021

The company will present the family opera “Holding Arna” in a production conducted by Lars Ljungberg.

Performance Dates: Feb. 13 – March 20, 2021

Patrik Ringborg will direct a production of Janacek’s “The Makropoulos Case” with Agneta Oak, Daniel Frank, Tommi Hakala, and Hanna Husáhr.

Performance Dates: March 20 – April 25, 2021

The season closes with “Circus Days and Nights,” a children’s opera directed by Tilde Björfors. The work contains music by Philip Glass and will be conducted by Minna Weurlander.

Performance Dates: May 29-June 13, 2021

Additionally, the company will present “Christmas at the Opera,” a concert featuring Rickard Söderberg, Anne Sofie von Otter, and Marianne Mörck.

Performance Dates: Dec. 17-20, 2020
