The Royal Opera House will present the UK premiere of Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s chamber opera “UR_” in a new production running May 27 to June 2, 2027, at the Linbury Theatre.

“UR_” was composed by Thorvaldsdottir, who also created the work’s narrative, words, and phonetic textures, with title and additional text by Mette Karlsvik. The one-hour opera was originally commissioned in 2015 by Far North in cooperation with Theater Trier in Germany, the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, and the Norwegian National Opera.

The production will be directed and designed by Netia Jones, Associate Director of The Royal Opera.

The Linbury Theatre performances follow The Royal Ballet’s presentations in 2023 and 2026 of Wayne McGregor’s “Untitled,” danced to Thorvaldsdottir’s “METACOSMOS” and “CATAMORPHOSIS.”
