Anna Prohaska, Magdalena Kožená, Max Emanuel Cenčić, Eva Zaïcik & Reinoud Van Mechelen Lead Staatsoper Berlin’s Barocktage 2021

The Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin has announced its Barocktage. For the purposes of this article, we will focus on vocal works only. Here is a look.

Baritone Adam Kutny kicks off the festival with the children opera “Theseus’ Reise in die Unterwelt.” Carolina Nees is the moderator.

Performance Dates: Nov. 5 – 13, 2021

André Campra’s rarely performed opera “Idoménée” spotlights Tassis Christoyannis, Samuel Boden, Chiara Skerath, Hélène Carpentier, Eva Zaïcik, Yoann Dubruque, Victor Sicard, Frédéric Caton, and Enguerrand de Hys. Emmanuelle Haïm conducts a production by Àlex Ollé / La Fura dels Baus.

Performance Dates: Nov. 5 – 14, 2021

Max Emanuel Cenčić, Anna Prohaska, and Liubov Medvedeva star in the Jürgen Flimm’s production of Christoph Willibald Gluck‘s “Orfeo ed Euridice.” Christophe Rousset conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 6 – 12, 2021

Reinoud Van Mechelen and Anna Prohaska star in the title roles in Jean-Philippe Rameau’s “Hippolyte et Aricie.” The cast also includes Magdalena Kožená, Adriane Queiroz, Ema Nikolovska, Evelin Novak, Slávka Zámečníková, Liubov Medvedeva, Gyula Orendt, Benjamin Chamandy, Jérôme Varnier, Michael Smallwood, Magnus Dietrich, Arttu Kataja, and Frederic Jost. Sir Simon Rattle conducts a production by Aletta Collins.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7 – 13, 2021

Marie-Claude Chappuis, Lea Desandre, Natalie Dessay, Emmanuelle de Negri, Sandrine Piau, Lenneke Ruiten, Eva Zaïcik, Tassis Christoyannis, Cyrille Dubois, Andrea Mastroni, Tim Mead, Laurent Naouri, Jarrett Ott, Victor Sicard, Michael Spyres, Mathias Vidal, and Carlo Vistoli take part in a concert with Emmanuelle Haïm and Sir Simon Rattle conducting. The works by Jean-Philippe Rameau, André Campra, and Henry Purcell will be performed.

Mezzo-soprano Grace Durham performs works by Michel Lambert, François Couperin, Henry Purcell, Jean-Marie Leclair and Jean-Baptiste Stuck with Christophe Rousset conducting.

Performance Date: Nov. 9, 2021

Ottavio Dantone brings his Accademia Bizantina for a concert performance of Christoph Willibald Gluck’s “Le Cinesi.” Delphine Galou, Ema Nikolovska, Spencer Britten, and Chiara Skerath star.

Performance Date: Nov. 13, 2021

Barocktage are set to open on Nov. 5, and will last until Nov. 14, 2021.
