Anna Pirozzi Replaces Angela Gheorghiu in Teatro Massimo’s ‘Manon Lescaut’

The Teatro Massimo di Palermo has announced a cast change for its upcoming performances of “Manon Lescaut.”

The Company announced that Anna Pirozzi will replace Angela Gheorghiu in the title role. Gheorghiu was forced to cancel due to a quarantine enforced by the Swiss government after returning from performances in Liège. As a result, the soprano will not make it in time for rehearsals.

Pirozzi returns to the Teatro Massimo after having sung the role of Lady Macbeth in “Macbeth” in 2017. The Italian soprano recently performed in a production of “Un Ballo in Maschera” at the Teatro Real and sang the title role of “Aida” at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli over the summer.

Pirozzi joins a cast that includes Yusif Eyvazov, and Alessio Arduini. Jader Bignamini conducts.

“Manon Lescaut” is set to be performed in concert from Oct. 21 to 24, 2020 with Maida Hundeling and Carlo Ventre leading a second cast.
