Anna Pirozzi, Marina Rebeka & Rosa Feola Highlight the 2022 Festival Verdi Season

The XXII Festival Verdi has announced its 2022 programing. Here is a look at what the world-famous festival will offer Verdi lovers.

The season opens with a new production of Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino.” Roberto Abbado conducts the 1869 Milano Critical edition with Anna Pirozzi, Gregory Kunde, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Marko Mimica, Roberto de Candia, Annalisa Stroppa, and Andrea Giovannini. Yannis Kokkos makes his Parma debut as director.

Performance Dates: Sept. 22-Oct. 16, 2022

Michele Mariotti returns to the festival to conduct Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in Critical edition. Soloists include Marina Rebeka in her Parma debut, Varduhi Abrahamyan also in her festival debut, Fabio Sartori, and Riccardo Zanellato.

Performance Dates: Sept. 23 & 30, 2022

“Il Trovatore” will be performed at the Teatro Girolamo Magnani di Fidenza with Elisabetta Courir directing and Sebastiano Rolli conducting. The new adaptation will star Silvia Dalla Benetta and Angelo Villari.

Performance Dates: Sept. 24-Oct. 13, 2022

Valentina Carrasco makes her Verdi Festival debut directing Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” with Riccardo Frizza conducting. The cast will include Vladimir Stoyanov in the title role, Roberta Mantegna in her role debut as Maria/Amelia, Riccardo Zanellato as Jacopo Fiesco, Piero Pretti, also in his role debut as Gabriele Adorno, and Devid Cecconi as Paolo Albiani.

Rosa Feola and Sergio Vitale perform in the Verdi gala alongside pianist Fabio Centanni.

Performance Date: Oct. 10, 2022

Daniele Gatti conducts Verdi’s Quattro Pezi Sacri.

Performance Dates: Oct. 15, 2022

The festival will present a new production of “Caravan Verdiano Rigoletto. Le voci da dentro.” The production, which is in collaboration with Verdi Off will showcase an adapted version of the work in a mobile theater.
