
Anna Pirozzi, Angela Meade, Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, Angel Blue & Roberto Alagna Lead Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Turandot’ Revival
By Francisco SalazarThe Metropolitan Opera is set to revive Puccini’s “Turandot” for 17 performances.
The opera will be presented between Sept. 23 and June 6 in Franco Zeffirelli’s iconic production.
The opera will first be shown in September and October for seven performances with Carlo Rizzi conducting. The cast includes Angela Meade in the title role, Michael Fabiano as Calaf, and Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha in her company debut as Liù. Vitalij Kowaljow rounds out the cast as Timur. Soprano Rebecca Nash sings the title role for the Oct. 18 performance.
In May and June, Oksana Lyniv conducts two casts. Liudmyla Monastyrska and Anna Pirozzi alternate the title role while Brian Jagde and Roberto Alagna share the role of Calàf. Angel Blue and Juliana Grigoryan reprise the role of Liù while John Relyea and bass Peixin Chen sing Timur.
“Turandot” has appeared 366 times at the Met to date, with the current production by Franco Zeffirelli premiering on March 12, 1987.
The Sept. 23 and 30, Oct. 9, and May 23 and 29 performances will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app. The May 23 performance will be broadcast over The Robert K. Johnson Foundation–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
