
Anna Pirozzi, Ainhoa Arteta & Ekaterina Semenchuk Highlight Bilbao Opera’s 2020-21 Season
By Francisco SalazarThe Bilbao Opera has announced its 2020-21 season featuring five productions with four Italian works and one French opera. Here is a look at what the Spanish season will offer.
The season opens with Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia” with Paolo Bordogna, Sabina Puértolas, Renato Girolami, Juan José de León, Pietro Spagnoli, and Marina Viotti. Christophe Rousset conducts the production by Emilio Sagi.
Performance Dates: Oct. 24-Nov. 2, 2020
Anna Pirozzi sings the title role in the title role of Verdi’s “Alzira.” The cast also includes Sergio Escobar, Juan Jesús Rodríguez, and Josep Miquel Ramón. Daniel Oren conducts.
Performance Dates: Nov. 21-30, 2020
Ekaterina Semenchuk and Marco Berti star in Saint-Saens’ “Samson et Dalila.” Renato Palumbo conducts the production, which also stars Egils Silins and Alejandro López.
Performance Dates: Jan. 23-Feb. 1, 2021
Óliver Díaz conducts Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore“ with a cast that includes Elena Sancho Pereg and Itziar de Unda alternating as Adina, Joel Prieto and Moisés Marín as Nemorino, Pablo Ruiz as Belcore, and David Menéndez as Dulcamara.
Performance Dates: Feb. 20-March 1, 2021
Ainhoa Arteta, Teodor Ilincai, and Roberto Frontali star in Puccini’s “Tosca“ with Yves Abel conducting.
