ARTE, ZDF and RAI are set to present Puccini’s “Tosca” from the Teatro alla Scala on Dec. 7, 2019.
The broadcast, which will also be shown in movie theaters, will star Anna Netrebko in the title role, Francesco Meli as Cavaradossi, and Luca Salsi as Scarpia. Riccardo Chailly will conduct the performances with Davide Livermore directing a new production which opens the 2019-20 season.
The production will be the fourth time Netrebko opens the Teatro alla Scala and her fourth broadcast with the company. Meli appeared in a broadcast of “Giovanna d’Arco” during the 2015-16 season while Salsi appeared on opening night during the 2017-18 season in “Andrea Chénier.” Both broadcasts also starred Netrebko.
“Tosca” runs through Jan. 8 and will also star Saioa Hernández in the title role.
