Decca Classics has announced the release of Verdi’s “Giovanna d’Arco” starring Anna Netrebko.

The new DVD, which also stars Francesco Meli and Carlos Alvarez, is set to be released on June 15. The production was filmed from a run in 2015 when the opera opened the 2015-16 season and was the first production at La Scala since 1865. Riccardo Chailly conducted the new production by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier.

The overall run earned rave reviews, with critics noting, “Anna Netrebko has never been more exciting, at steely strength through her full range, spinning ornament with precision and elegance, and performing this uneasy role with febrile commitment.”

Anna Netrebko made her role debut as “Giovanna d’Arco” at the Salzburg Festival in concert performances in 2013. Deutsche Grammophon later released a CD version, which also starred Francesco Meli. This new production marks her fourth Verdi opera on DVD. Previously Deutsche Grammophon released “La Traviata,” “Macbeth,” and “Il Trovatore.”

This summer Netrebko is set to go on tour with Yusif Eyvazov and will also open a new production of “Macbeth” at the Berlin State Opera. Next season she reprises the role of “Aida” at the Metropolitan Opera and also makes her role debut as Leonora in “La Forza del Destino” at the Royal Opera.
