Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov, Ildar Abdrazakov Headline Bolshoi Theatre’s 2020-21 Season

The Bolshoi Theatre has announced its 2020-21 season featuring a number of new productions.

The company also announced its September revivals.

Premieres 

Alexei Vereshchagin conducts a new production of Bizet’s “Les pêcheurs de perles” directed by Vladislavs Nastavševs.

Premiere Date: Dec. 3, 2020

R. Strauss’ “Salome” gets a new production by Claus Guth. The production, which is set for the Metropolitan Opera, will be conducted by Tugan Sokhiev.

Premiere Date: Feb. 25, 2021

Shostakovich’s “Moscow, Cheryomushki” will be directed by Ivan Popvski. 

Premiere Date: March 18, 2021

Puccini’s “Tosca” will be conducted by Giacomo Sagripanti in a new production by Stefano Poda. 

Premiere Date: April 22, 2021

Tugan Sokhiev conducts Tchaikovsky’s “Mazeppa” in a new production by Evgеny Pisarev.

Premiere Date: June 23, 2021

The final new production of the season will be Handel’s “Ariodante” in a production by David Alden conducted by Gianluca Capuano.

Premiere Date: July 21, 2021

September Revivals 

Verdi’s “Don Carlo” opens with Anton Grishanin conducting an all-star cast that includes Ildar Abdrazakov, Yusif Eyvazov, Elchin Azizov, Denis Makarov, Anna Netrebko, and Agunda Kulaeva.

Performance Dates: Sept. 6-10, 2020

Mozart’s “Don Giovanni, ossia Il dissoluto punito” is set to get two performances.

Performance Dates: Sept. 15 & 16, 2020

Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” will be conducted by Tugan Sokhiev and will star two casts. The first cast is set to star Yusif Eyvazov, Elchin Azizov, Vasily Ladyuk, Svetlana Shilova, Anna Nechaeva, and Elena Maximova. The second cast is set to headline Sergey Polyakov, Alexey Markov, Andrei Potaturin, Maria Lobanova, and Alina Chertash.

Performance Dates: Sept. 16-18, 2020

Handel’s “Giulio Cesare and Cleopatra” returns to the stage.

Performance Dates: Sept. 19 & 20, 2020

Vladimir Dashkevich’s “The Government Inspect” returns to the Bolshoi stage.

Performance Date: Sept. 22, 2020 

Oleg DolgovDvořák’s “Rusalka” will return with Dinara Alieva in the title role,  Anastasia Bibicheva, and Oleg Dolgov. The second cast will showcase Denis Makarov, Ekaterina Morozova, Nadezhda Serdyuk, and Timofei Dubovitsky.

Performance Dates: Sept. 24-26, 2020

The theater will present a double bill of Menotti’s “The Telephone” and “The Medium.”

Performance Dates: Sept. 26 & 27, 2020

Telemann’s “Pimpinone” will receive one performance.

Performance Date: Sept. 30, 2020

The final opera of the month will be Mozart’s “The Impresario.”
