The Semperoper Dresden has announced its reopening featuring a concert reduction of Verdi’s “Don Carlo” on June 19, 2020.
The company will open with selections from Verdi’s masterpiece performed by Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov, Elena Maximova, Mariya Taniguchi, Alexandros Stavrakakis, Sebastian Wartig, and Tilmann Rönnebeck. This performance of selected arias and ensemble numbers will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra featuring violin, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, cor anglais, harmonium, and piano. The musicians of the Staatskapelle Dresden will be conducted by Johannes Wulff-Woesten.
The opening event in the “Aufklang!” series at the Semperoper is a nod to the Dresden premiere of “Don Carlo,” which is now rescheduled for the 2020-21 season. Netrebko was scheduled to make her role debut as Elisabetta last May.
The company will give four performances of the work on June 19, 20, 21 & 22 June 2020.
Additionally, the Semperoper will perform a series of concerts that will last about 90 minutes with limited seating capacity, following current hygiene regulations.
The complete “Aufklang!” program will feature two evenings of songs and arias performed in concert by Semperoper soloists under the titles “Passion” and “Favourite Songs” on the weekend of July 4/5, 2020; an extraordinary orchestral evening recital on June 27/28, 2020, as well as a non-subscription Beethoven concert presented by the Staatskapelle under Principal Conductor Christian Thielemann on July 11, 2020.
Among the soloists who will perform in the concert series are Katerina von Bennigsen, Michal Doron, Ute Selbig, Jürgen Müller, Aaron Pegram, Tilmann Rönnebeck, Hrachuhi Bassénz, Roxana Incontrera, Christa Mayer, Joseph Dennis, Markus Marquardt, and Alexandros Stavrakakis.
Tickets will go on sale on June 16.
