Anna Netrebko will sing the title role in Puccini’s “Turandot” during the 2021-22 Metropolitan Opera season

The New York Times confirmed the season in its review of the New Year’s Eve gala.

During the 2016-17 season, Netrebko revealed that she was preparing to sing the role and later previewed the opera during the 2019-20 Metropolitan Opera New Year’s Eve gala when she sang the second act. The soprano will make her role debut as “Turandot” this January when she takes on the role at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

This season Netrebko is also scheduled to make her role debut as Elisabetta in “Don Carlo” at the Semperoper Dresden in a new production, which is scheduled to be broadcast on Arte.

She will reprise the role at the Bolshoi Theatre as well as performing a new production of “Tosca” in Salzburg. She sings two revivals of the opera at the Metropolitan Opera and Royal Opera.
