Anna Netrebko To Sing Iconic Role In 2019-20 At La Scala

By Francisco Salazar

Anna Netrebko is set to open the Teatro alla Scala during the 2019-20 season.

According to La Reppublica, the soprano will return to the theater in a new production of Puccini’s “Tosca” alongside Luca Salsi with whom she worked with on “Andrea Chénier” and “Aida” in Salzburg. Riccardo Chailly will conduct the production.

The news comes after La Scala announced its 2018-19 season, which will see Netrebko surprisingly absent after having performed with the company for the past three seasons. Netrebko has opened La Scala’s season three times, including this past season as Maddalena in “Andrea Chénier;” she also opened the 2015-16 season in the title role of “Giovanna d’Arco,” and the 2011-12 edition as Donna Anna in “Don Giovanni.”

Netrebko made her role debut as “Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera and OperaWire noted, “Anna Netrebko Conquers Puccini’s Iconic Diva.”

More information is set to be revealed later this year.
