Anna Netrebko to Perform ‘Il Trovatore’ at Mariinsky Theatre

By Francisco Salazar

Anna Netrebko is set to return to the Mariinsky Theatre.

The soprano will return on Jan. 5 for one performance of “Il Trovatore” alongside an all-star cast that includes Ekaterina Semenchuk, Yusif Eyvazov, and Alexei Markov. Valery Gergiev will conduct the evening.

The performance comes after the soprano was forced to cancel her highly anticipated role debut as Abigaille in “Nabucco” at the Royal Opera House. According to the company, Netrebko was forced to cancel due to ongoing travel restrictions across Europe.

Netrebko is still scheduled to perform the title role in Verdi’s “Aida” at the Teatro di San Carlo in February 2022 and is also set to perform at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Opernhaus Zurich, Teatro alla Scala, and Metropolitan Opera. She will now make her debut as Abigaille at the Arena di Verona this summer.
