Anna Netrebko, Sonya Yoncheva, Elīna Garanča & Bryn Terfel Lead Teatro Colón’s 2023 Season

The Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina has announced its 2023 season. Here is a look at the operatic vocal performances.

Opera

Charles Dutoit conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in a production by Romeo Castellucci. Jaquelina Livieri and Guadalupe Barrientos star.

Performance Dates: March 7-12, 2023

Jan Latham-Koenig conducts a production of Gounod’s “Faust” by Stefano Poda. The cast includes Liparit Avetisyan and Gastón Oliveira in the title role, Aleksei Tikhomirov, Christian Peregrino, Ekaterina Petrova, Marina Silva, Vinícius Atique, Felipe Carelli, Florencia Machado, and Daniela Prado.

Performance Dates: March 14-21, 2023

Marcelo Ayub conducts Barrie Kosky’s production of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” with Joel Prieto and Juan Francisco Gatell as Tamino and Verónica Cangemi and Hera Hyesang Park as Pamina. The cast is rounded out by Peter Kellner, Alejandro Spies, María Savastano, Ana Sampedro, Rafał Siwek, Lucas Debevec Mayer, Anna Siminska, Laura Pisani, Pablo Urban, and Sergio Spina.

Performance Dates: May 7-16, 2023

Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena” will be conducted by Maurizio Benini. The opera will star María Agresta, Alex Espósito, Daniela Barcellona, Xabier Anduaga, and Florencia Machado.

Performance Dates: June 23-29, 2023

Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Progress” is set to be conducted by  Charles Dutoit and will be staged by Alfredo Arias. Ben Bliss, Christopher Purves, Giulia Semenzato, Patricia Bardon, Hernán Iturralde, and Darío Schmunck.

Giacomo Sagripanti conducts Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” with Anna Netrebko, Fabián Veloz, Anita Rachvelishvili, and Yusif Eyvazov.

Performance Dates: August 11-20, 2023

Jordi Bernàcer conducts Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia” in Pablo Maritano’s production. Erwin Schrot, Marko Mimica, Irina Lungu, María Virginia Savastano, Fabio Capitanucci, Ricardo Seguel, Santiago Ballerini, Francisco Brito, Germán Alcántara , and Felipe Carelli.

Performance Dates: Sept. 5-12, 2023

Jan Latham-Koenig conducts Lehar’s “The Merry Widow” in a production by Damiano Michieletto. Carla Filipcic Holm, María Belén Rivarola, Rafael Fingerlos, Alejandro Spies, Franz Hawlata, Hernán Iturralde, Ruth Iniesta, and Florencia Burgardt.

Performance Dates: Sept. 26-Oct. 3, 2023

Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” is set to be conducted by Jan Latham-Koenig and Carlos Vieu. Livia Sabag directs the production with Elena Stikhina, Daniela Tabernig, Mónica Ferracani, Riccardo Massi, Ivan Magri, Fermín Prieto, Guadalupe Barrientos, María Luján Mirabelli, Cecilia Díaz, Leonardo Neiva, Omar Carrión, and Leonardo López Linares.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7-17, 2023

Christian Baldini conducts Gandini’s “La Ciudad Ausente” in a production by Valentina Carrasco. Oriana Favaro, Sebastián Sorarrain, Alejandro Spies, Pablo Urban, Gustavo Gibert, Mariana Rewerski, Constanza Díaz Falú, María Castillo, and Santiago Martínez star.

Opera de Camara 

Philip Glass’ “Einstein on the Beach” will be conducted by Léo Warynski.

Performance Dates: June 13 & 14, 2023

“Sun & Sea” will be presented.

Donizetti’s “Viva La Mamma” will be directed by Pablo Maritano and will star Víctor Torres, Marina Silva, Alejandro Spies, Luis Gaeta, Florencia Burgardt, Iván Maier, and Gustavo Gibert. Javier Mas will conduct.

Tito Ceccherini conducts Donizetti’s “Il Campanello.”

Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s “Der Jasager” and Bertolt Brecht and Martín Matalón’s “Die Lösung” will be conducted by Natalia Salinas and Martín Matalón with Violeta Zamudio and Nahuel Di Pierro directing.

Scarlatti’s “Humanità e Lucifero” will be conducted by Mónica Pustilnik and directed by Ana Crapis.
