Anna Netrebko, Saioa Hernández & Sonya Yoncheva Headline Teatro Alla Scala’s 2019-20 Season

Anna Netrebko opens the Teatro alla Scala in the title role of Puccini’s ‘Tosca” with Luca Salsi in the role of Scarpia. Riccardo Chailly conducts the production by Davide Livermore. Saioa Hernández sings three performances of the title role.
Performance Dates: Dec. 7, 2019-Jan. 8, 2020
Diana Damrau and Vittorio Grigolo team up for Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” in Bartlett Sher’s production. Lorenzo Viotti conducts the production which also stars Nicolas Testè, Mattia Olivieri, and Marina Viotti.
Performance Dates: Jan. 15-Feb. 16, 2020
Alvis Hermanis brings his acclaimed production of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” with a cast that includes Francesco Meli, Massimo Cavalletti, Liudmyla Monastyrska, and Violeta Urmana. Nicola Luisotti conducts.
Performance Dates: Feb. 6-March 6, 2020
Alex Esposito, Rosa Feola, Giulio Mastrototaro, Edgardo Rocha, and Mattia Olivieri star in a new production of Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia.” The new production will be conducted by Diego Fasolis and directed Roberto Andò.
Performance Dates: Feb. 22-March 19, 2020
Riccardo Chailly conducts Damiano Michieletto’s new production of Strauss’ “Salome” with Malin Byström in the title role. Roberto Saccà, Anna Maria Chiuri, Michael Volle, and Attilio Glaser also star.

Bernard Richter, Markus Werba, Nicolas Testé, Patricia Petibon, and Sylvie Brunet-Grupposo star in Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande.” The new production is set to be directed by Matthias Hartmann with Daniele Gatti conducting.

Carlus Padrissa / La Fura dels Baus directs Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” with Peter Seiffert in the title role. He is joined by Christian Gerhaher, Markus Werba, Krassimira Stoyanova, Dorothea Röschmann, and Daniela Sindram.

Ferruccio Furlanetto, Roberto Frontali, Giorgio Berrugi, Federica Lombardi, and Giorgio Misseri star in Montemezzi’s “L’Amore di Tre Re” with Carlo Rizzi conducting and Àlex Ollé / La Fura dels Baus directing.

Daniel Oren conducts a new production of Giordano’s “Fedora” by Mario Martone. Sonya Yoncheva sings the title role alongside Roberto Alagna with a cast that also includes Mariangela Sicilia, Massimo Cavalletti, and Marco Ciaponi.

Fabio Sartori, Luca Salsi, Saioa Hernández, and Violeta Urmana star in a new production of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera.” The production by Gabriele Salvatores will be conducted by Zubin Mehta.

Maria Rebeka and Angel Blue share the title role in Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Francesco Meli and Charles Castronovo sharing the role of Alfredo. Leo Nucci, Plácido Domingo, and George Petean share the role of Germont with Zubin Mehta and Michele Gamba alternating at the pit.

La Scala presents a double bill of Arnold Schönberg’s “Erwartung” and Luigi Nono’s “Intolleranza 1960.”
Damiano Michieletto directs the production with Camilla Nylund singing both works. The double bill also stars Giorgio Berrugi, Anna Maria Chiuri, Simone Piazzola, and Dario Russo. Zubin Mehta conducts.
