Anna Netrebko Returns to ‘Manon Lescaut’ In January 2018

Anna Netrebko will return to the Bolshoi Theater in January 2018 as the eponymous Manon Lescaut in Puccini’s opera of the same name.

It marks the soprano’s return to the role, which she last sang at the Metropolitan Opera in November. It also marks her return to the theater, where she made her debut in October 2016 in the same role. During that run, she premiered the new production by Adolf Shapiro and sang alongside her husband Yusif Eyvazov.

Netrebko is recognized for dramatic skills and critics noted that her Manon Lescaut was “bravura performance that included searing intensity and coquettish whim, often welded together in a single scene.”

She has also performed the role at the Salzburg Festival, which was recorded for CD, the Vienna State Opera and the Rome Opera, where she made her role debut alongside Riccardo Muti.
