Anna Netrebko Previews New Role Online

Anna Netrebko is giving her fans a little preview of her upcoming role debut in Verdi’s “Nabucco.”

Over the past two days the soprano has posted stories of her rehearsing different sections of the opera in her apartment in Vienna. Now she has posted a video of the second act aria “Anch’io dischiuso un giorno” and Abigaille’s entrance in the first act with the quotes “work in progress.”

Netrebko is set to make her role debut as Abigaille at the Metropolitan Opera on April 30, 2021. She will sing five performances alongside George Gagnidze in the title role and Marco Armiliato, who conducts.

The soprano is also expected to open the Metropolitan Opera 2020-21 season in a new production of Verdi’s “Aida” and sing a new production of Puccini’s “Turandot” at the Salzburg Easter Festival.
