It’s a special weekend filled with great stars and one of the world’s greatest houses celebrating an anniversary. This weekend we have upgraded to seven operas to see so that you all don’t miss some of the great presentations to see this weekend.

Die Frau Ohne Schatten & Andrea Chénier  – Wiener Staatsoper, Austria

The Vienna stage is stacked with stars this weekend and it’s hard to choose one opera from the list. So on Friday audiences will get to check out Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov in Giordano’s masterpiece with Luca Salsi rounding out the cast. Marco Armiliato conducts.

Then on Saturday will be the premiere of Strauss’ masterwork featuring Nina Stemme, Evelyn Herlitzius, Camilla Nylund, Wolfgang Koch, and Stephen Gould. Christian Thielemann conducts.

150th Anniversary Gala – Wiener Staatsoper, Austria

On Sunday audiences cannot miss the 150th-anniversary gala concert which will feature Nina Stemme, Aleksandra Kurzak, Roberto Alagna, Camilla Nylund, Tomasz Konieczny, Valentina Naforniţă, Erwin Schrott, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Sonya Yoncheva, and Günther Groissböck. Marco Armiliato conducts the special evening.

La Leyenda del Beso – Teatro Cafam, Colombia

Luis Fernando Perez conducts Milagros Martín’s production of Reveriano Soutullo y Juan Vert’s beloved Zarzuela. The production is being presented with La Fundación Arte Lirico en Coproducción con el Ministerio de Cultura de España.

Alceste – Bayerische Staatsoper, Germany

Charles Castronovo headlines the new production in Gluck’s opera on Sunday with a cast that includes Dorothea Röschmann, Michael Nagy, Manuel Günther, and Sean Michael Plumb. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui directs the new production with Antonello Manacorda conducting.

The Fiery Angel – Teatro dell’Opera di Roma

Leigh Melrose, Anna Victorova, Ewa Vesin, Mairam Sokolova, Domingo Pellicola, and Sergey Radchenko star in Prokofiev’s rarely performed work with Alejo Pérez conducting Emma Dante’s production. 

Andrea Chénier – Royal Opera House

Sondra Radvanovsky and Roberto Alagna lead a star-studded cast in Giordano’s masterwork with Dimitri Platanias, Rosalind Plowright, and Christine Rice. Daniel Oren conducts Sir. David McVicar’s production.
