Anna Netrebko & Leo Nucci Highlight The 7 Operas To See This Weekend Internationally (9/6-8)

This weekend a number of classics will be presented in new productions and with some of the top stars. Here are the top showcases that we recommend.

I Puritani – Opéra de Paris, France

Elsa Dreisig makes her role debut as Elvira alongside a remarkable cast that includes Javier Camarena, Nicolas Testé, and Igor Golovatenko. Riccardo Frizza conducts Laurent Pelly’s inventive production

La Forza Del Destino / Adriana Lecouvreur – Deutsche Oper Berlin, Germany

Maria Jose Siri highlights a new production of Verdi masterpiece in a new production by Frank Castorf. This staging also stars Stephen Bronk, Markus Brück, Russell Thomas, Agunda Kulaeva, Marko Mimica, and Misha Kiria with conductor Jordi Bernàcer.

Meanwhile Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov headline a concert performance of Cilea’s masterpiece with Olesya Petrova and Alessandro Corbelli rounding out the cast. Michelangelo Mazza conducts.

Otello – Oper Frankfurt, Germany

Enea Scala makes his role debut as Otello in Rossini’s masterwork. He is joined by Nino Machaidze, Theo Lebow, and Jack Swanson. Sesto Quatrini conducts the new production by Damiano Michieletto.

Pagliacci/Cavalleria Rusticana – Dutch National Opera, Holland

Robert Carsen’s new production continues its run with a starry cast that includes Brian Jagde and Brandon Jovanovich in the tenor roles and Anita Rachvelishvili and Ailyn Perez in the female leads.

The leads are joined by Roman Burdenko, who performs in both works, Mattia Olivieri, Rihab Chaieb, and Elena Zilio. Lorenzo Viotti conducts the production.

Rigoletto – Teatro alla Scala, Italy

Leo Nucci brings his signature role to the Milanese theater with a number of young singers. Rodrigo Porras Garulo sings the role of the Duke, Toni Nežić as Sparafucile, Francesca Manzo as Gilda, and Daria Cherniy as Magdalena. Daniel Oren conducts.

La Diavolessa – Teatro Olimpico, Italy

Ettore Agati,  Ligia Ishitani Silva, Arlene Miatto Albeldas,  Omar Cepparolli, Stepan Polishchuk, Lucia Conte, and Lucas Lopes Pereira star in Baldassare Galuppi’s opera.
