UPDATE: Per our sources, the speculated production is just a rumor and it is the wrong information. Following is the article in its original form.

Anna Netrebko and Jonas Kaufmann are set to perform Puccini’s “Turandot” at the Salzburg Festival in 2021.

According to Platea Magazine and Forum Opera, the two superstars will star in a new production of Puccini’s final opera with Christain Thielemann conducting in 2021. Details have yet to be revealed regarding the remaining cast members or director, but more should surface in the coming months.

It would be the second time the two performed together at the Salzburg Festival. Previously Kaufmann sang one performance offstage of “La Bohème” while Piotr Beczala acted the role with Netrebko. Kaufmann and Netrebko have also collaborated on two summer concerts, both of which were televised. They also starred in a production of “La Traviata” at the Royal Opera House. They are set to reunite for Christof Loy’s production of “La Forza del Destino” next season with Antonio Pappano conducting.

Netrebko is currently performing “Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera, while Kaufmann is singing the title role of “Andrea Chenier” at the Wiener Staatsoper.
