Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann, Sonya Yoncheva & Plácido Domingo Highlight Arena di Verona’s 2020 Festival

The Arena di Verona has announced the 2020 casting featuring an all-star lineup.

The opening of the season will showcase a new production by Gabriele Muccino of “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci.” Mascagni’s work will showcase Ekaterina Semenchuk, Alexia Voulgaridou, Maria José Siri, and Sonia Ganassi alternating as Santuzza and Murat Karahan, Carlo Ventre, Yusif Eyvazov, and Marcelo Álvarez as Turiddu.

Sebastian Catana, Ambrogio Maestri, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, and Alberto Gazale alternate as Alfio while Katia Ricciarelli, Agostina Smimmero and Elena Zilio share the role of Mama Lucia.

For the Leoncavallo work, Barbara Frittoli, Evgenia Muraveva, María José Siri, and Nino Machaidze share the role of Nedda while Vittorio Grigolo, Yusif Eyvazov, Carlo Ventre, and Marcelo Álvarez alternate as Canio.

Meanwhile, Taddeo will be sung by Sebastian Catana, Ambrogio Maestri, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, and Alberto Gazale while Silvio will be shared by Davide Luciano, Julian Kim, Mario Cassi, and Biagio Pizzuti.

Roberto Alagna and Aleksandra Kurzak will perform for one night in both works in a special presentation.

Diego Matheuz and Francesco Ivan Ciampa conduct.

Performance Dates: June 13-August 22, 2020

Angela Meade, María José Siri, Zarina Abaeva, and  Veronika Dzhioeva share the title role of Verdi’s “Aida” with Marcelo Álvarez, Carlo Ventre, Yusif Eyvazov, Roberto Aronica, Samuele Simoncini, and Murat Karahan alternating as Radamès.

Ekaterina Semenchuk, Olesya Petrova,  Teresa Romano, Judit Kutasi, and Anna Maria Chiuri sing Amneris while Ambrogio Maestri, Alberto Gazale, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Simone Piazzola, Sebastian Catana, and Luca Salsi alternate as Amonasro.

Daniel Oren, Plácido Domingo, and Andrea Battistoni conduct.  

Performance Dates: June 20-Sept. 5, 2020

Emily Magee, Maida Hundeling, and Anna Pirozzi star in Puccini’s “Turandot” alongside Murat Karahan and Jorge de Leon as Calaf.

Riccardo Fassi, Giorgio Giuseppini, and Ruth Iniesta round out the cast with Daniel Oren and Andrea Battistoni conducting.

Performance Dates: June 27-Sept. 3, 2020

Amartuvshin Enkhbat, George Petean, Sebastian Catana, and Luca Salsi star in the title role of “Nabucco” alongside Anna Pirozzi, Saioa Hernández, and Maida Hundeling who bring their Abigaille to the Arena.

Samuele Simoncini, Riccardo Rados, Rafał Siwek, Vitalij Kowaljow, Michele Pertusi, Teresa Iervolino, Géraldine Chauvet, and Annalisa Stroppa round out the cast.

Daniel Oren and Andrea Battistoni conduct.

Marina Rebeka, Sonya Yoncheva, Angel Blue, Aida Garifullina, and Lisette Oropesa bring their acclaimed Violetta’s to Verdi’s “La Traviata,” alongside the Alfredo’s of Francesco Meli, Vittorio Grigolo, Celso Albelo, and Saimir Pirgu. George Petean and Simone Piazzola sing Germont.

Francesco Ivan Ciampa and Andrea Battistoni conduct.

The Jonas Kaufmann Gala Event is the first of the special events on the program as he makes his long awaited debut.

Plácido Domingo headlines the Domingo Opera Night which will be feature a look back at stellar career by means of some of the performances that made him world-famous. Jordi Bernàcer conducts.
