Anna Netrebko, Jennifer Davis & Adriana Gonzalez Lead Top 7 Operas to See This Weekend – International

This weekend is all about new productions, role debuts and rarely performed works. Here are seven productions we recommend this weekend.

Leonore – Wiener Staatsoper, Austria

Tomáš Netopil conducts a new production by Amélie Niermeyer of Beethoven’s only opera. The cast includes Jennifer Davis in her Vienna debut, Katrin Röver, Benjamin Bruns, Falk Struckmann, Thomas Johannes Mayer, Samuel Hasselhorn, Chen Reiss, and Jörg Schneider.

Le Nozze di Figaro – Opera de Nancy, France

Huw Montague Rendall, Adriana Gonzalez, Mikhail Timoshenko, Lilian Farahani and Giuseppina Bridelli star in Mozart and Da Ponte’s masterpiece. Award winning filmmaker James Gray directs with Andreas Spering conducting.

La Gazetta – Oper Franfurt, Germany

Sebastian Geyer, Elizabeth Sutphen, Mikołaj Trąbka, Matthew Swensen, Angela Vallone, Nina Tarandek, Danylo Matviienko, and Franz Mayer star in a new production of Rossini’s rarely performed work, written by Palomba. Caterina Panti Liberovici directs the new production with Simone Di Felice conducting.

Turandot – Bayerische Staatsoper, Germany

Anna Netrebko sings her first “Turandot” in the Munich production by Carlus Padrissa – La Fura dels Baus. The cast also includes Alexander Tsymbalyuk, Yusif Eyvazov, and Selene Zanetti. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts the production.

Parsifal – Teatro Massimo, Italy

Omer Meir Wellber conducts the new production by Graham Vick. The cast includes Tómas Tómasson, Alexei Tanovitski, John Relyea, Thomas Gazheli, Julian Hubbard, and Catherine Hunold. The weekend will showcase the final performances of the season.

Maria Stuarda – Teatro Sao Carlo, Portugal

Ekaterina Bakanova sings the title role in the final performance of the season of Donizetti’s masterpiece, written by Bardari. The cast also includes Alessandra Volpe, Leonardo Cortellazzi, Luís Rodrigues, and Christian Luján. Fabrizio Maria Carminati conducts the production by Andrea De Rosa.

Cecilia Valdes – Teatro de la Zarzuela, Spain

Óliver Díaz conducts the first production of this beloved Cuban Zarzuela in a production by Carlos Wagner. Elizabeth Caballero and Elaine Álvarez share the title role with a cast that also includes Martin Nusspaumer, Enrique Ferrer, Homero Perez-Miranda, Eleomar Cuello and Cristina Faus.
