Anna Netrebko, Ermonela Jaho & Charles Castronovo Lead ARTE Opera’s 2019-20 Season

ARTE has announced its 2019-20 season ARTE opera season. The season will showcase one opera per month and will bring some of the world’s greatest stars to its streaming service.

The season opens with Puccini’s ‘Turandot” in a new production by Franc Aleu from Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona. The opera stars Iréne Theorin in the title role, Alexander Vinogradov, Jorge de León, and Ermonela Jaho. Josep Pons conducts.

Performance Date: Oct. 15, 2019

Astor Piazzolla’s “María de Buenos Aires” will be shown from the Opéra national du Rhin, Strasbourg. The production is set to be conducted by Nicolas Agullo with Ana Karina Rossi, Stefan Sbonnik, and Alejandro Guyot starring. The production is directed by Matias Tripodi.

Performance Date: Nov. 15, 2019

Karlheinz Stockhausen’s “Aus Licht” is set to star the Netherlands Chamber Choir, Cappella Amsterdam, Nationaal Kinderkoor, Nationaal Vrouwen Jeugdkoor, and Nationaal Gemengd Jeugdkoor in a production by Pierre Audi. The Dutch National Opera presents the production which will be conducted by Kathinka Pasveer.

Performance Date: Nov. 29, 2019

Ermonela Jaho stars in Verdi’s “La Traviata” from the Teatro Real de Madrid. The production by Sir David McVicar also stars Francesco Demuro, Juan Jesús Rodríguez, and Marifé Nogales and is conducted by Renato Palumbo.

Ambrogio Maestri takes on his signature role in Verdi’s “Falstaff” from the Staatsoper Hamburg. Axel Kober conducts Calixto Bieito’s new production with Oleksiy Palchykov, Jürgen Sacher, and Tigran Martirossian starring.

Performance Date: Jan. 19, 2020

Beethoven’s “Leonore (Fidelio)” gets a new production by Amélie Niermeyer starring Jennifer Davis, Benjamin Bruns, Yvonne Gebauer, and Tobias Kehrer. Tomáš Netopil conducts.

Performance Date: Feb. 1, 2020

Jiří Nekvasil directs a production of Smetana’s “Dalibor” with Adam Plachetka, Peter Berger, Jiří Brückler, and Dana Burešová. The production from the Národná divadlo in Prague is conducted by Jaroslav Kyzlink.

Performance Date: March 12, 2020

The Armel Opera Festival in Budapest is set to present Leoš Janáček / Annelies Van Parys’ “Diary of One Who Disappeared.” Ivo van Hove directs the production with Jonathan Ware leading soloists Marie Hamard, Andrew Dickinson, and Wim van der Grijn.

Performance Date: June 2020

Anna Netrebko stars in Vedi’s “Don Carlo” in a new production by Vera Nemirova. The diva is joined from the Semperoper Dresden by Christian Thielemann conducting and Ildar Abdrazakov, Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov, Ekaterina Semenchuk, and Franco Vassallo also starring.

Performance Date: May 2020

Dorothea Röschmann, Charles Castronovo, Michael Nagy, and Noa Beinart star in Gluck’s “Alceste” with Antonello Manacorda conducting. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui directs the production which is brought from the Bayerische Staatsoper
