By Francisco Salazar

Anna Netrebko has canceled her upcoming performances at the Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin.

The soprano announced via social media that due to a virus, she would not be able to perform. She wrote, “Unfortunately my battle with virus for several days wasn’t successful … yesterday it’s get very bad and I have to cancel my concerts in Berlin with maestro Barenboim . I am very sorry but extremely demanding repertoire not allowed me to sing over Laringhites… Hope to see you very soon.”

The soprano was expected to return to the Berlin stage for the Festtage in two gala concerts on April 18 and 19 with Daniel Barenboim, performing arias by Verdi. As a result of her cancellation, Aida Garifullina will replace Netrebko performing arias from “La Traviata” and “Rigoletto.”

Netrebko returns to the stage on April 29 for a concert in Frankfurt and on May 8 to celebrate the Opera de Paris’ 350th anniversary.
