Anna Denisova, Patrick Terry & Brindley Sherratt Lead Opera North 2020-21 Season

Opera North has just announced its 2020-21 Season, featuring seven operas. Performance venues include the Leeds Grand Theatre, Theatre Royal Newcastle, The Lowry,  and the Theatre Royal Nottingham for the first six operas.

“Parsifal” will be performed at the Leeds Town Hall, Bridgewater Hall Manchester, Royal Concert Hall Nottingham, Sage Gateshead, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Usher Hall Edinburgh, and Symphony Hall Birmingham.

Verdi and Piave’s “La Traviata” will open the season, featuring Camila Titinger, Nico Darmanin, Oliver Johnston, Stephen Gadd, and Anna Denisova in the title role. Jonathan Webb and Manoj Kamps will conduct the production by Alessandro Talevi.

Performance Dates: September 19 – November 20, 2020

Bernstein’s Double Bill “Trouble in Tahiti/West Side Story Symphonic Dances” will spotlight Quirijn Lang and Sandra Piques Eddy. Jonathon Heyward will conduct the production by Matthew Eberhardt (for the vocal work “Trouble in Tahiti”)

Performance Dates: October 3 – November 21, 2020

Bell and Jenkins’ “Jack The Ripper” will showcase Elin Pritchard, Josephine Barstow, Lesley Garrett, Miranda Bevin, Hazel Croft, and Claire Pascoe. Nicholas Kok will conduct the production by Daniel Kramer. The work is a co-commission and co-production with the English National Opera.

Performance Dates: October 17 – November 18, 2020

Bizet, Meilhac, and Halévy’s “Carmen” will feature Chrystal E. Williams in the title role and Antoine Bélanger as Don José. The rest of the cast will be announced at a later date. Garry Walker is set to conduct the production by Edward Dick.

Performance Dates: January 16 – March 27, 2021

Handel’s “Alcina” will star Patrick Terry, Joanna Motulewicz, Lucie Chartin, Anthony Gregory, and Máire Flavin in the title role.

Laurence Cummings will conduct the production by Tim Albery.

Performance dates: February 2 – March 24, 2021

Puccini, Civinini, and Zangarini’s “The Girl of the Golden West” will spotlight Magdalena Molendowska, Eric Greene, Rafael Rojas, and Paul Nilon. Antony Hermus will conduct the production by Aletta Collins.

Performance dates: February 16 – March 26, 2021

Finally, Wagner’s “Parsifal” will star Katarina Karnéus, Brindley Sherratt, Robert Hayward, Eric Greene, and Toby Spence in the title role. Richard Farnes is set to conduct the production by PJ Harris.

Performance dates: May 5 – June 12, 2021
