Anna Caterina Antonacci Highlights Odyssey Opera’s 2019-20 Season

The Odyssey Opera has announced its 2019-20 season which will center on England’s Tudor dynasty. The season will feature six concert and staged operas depicting various moments in the Tudor history.

Michael Chioldi takes on the title role in Saint-Saen’s “Henry VIII” in a concert performance exploring the rarely performed score. Also appearing in the cast are Ellie Dehn and Hilary Ginther.

Performance Date: Sept. 21, 2019

Amy Shoremount-Obra is “Maria, Regina d’inghilterra” in Pacini’s opera based on Victor Hugo’s play. The production is set to be staged.

Performance Dates: Nov. 1-3, 2019

Arnold Rosner’s “The Chronicle of Nine” takes on the nine-day reign of Henry VII’s great-granddaughter, which ended when when Mary Tudor’s supporters claimed the crown in 1553. Megan Pachecano sings the lead role of Lady Jane Grey in this world premiere performance.

Performance Date: Feb. 1, 2020

Rossini’s “Elisabetta, Regina d’inghilterra” will be showcased with a cast to be determined at a later date. The cast will include Serena Farnocchia and Lucia Cesaroni.

Anna Caterina Antonacci brings her signature turn as Queen Gloriana in Britten’s “Gloriana” to Boston. The concert performance marks a rare American appearance for Antonacci.

Performance Date: April 11, 2020

Claudia Waite is Good Queen Bess in Edward German’s “Merrie England.” The satirical operetta takes on the love and rivalries at the court of Queen Elizabeth I and was what established German as the heir to Arthur Sullivan. Daniel Greenwood will also star.

Performance Dates: June 12-14, 2020
