Ann Tomey To replace Danielle De Niese In Chicago

By Francisco Salazar

The Lyric Opera of Chicago has announced that Ryan Opera Center soprano Ann Toomey will replace Danielle de Niese in the final three performances of “La Bohème.”

The company announced that due to illness, De Niese would not be able to continue the run in the role of Musetta. Additionally, the company said that doctors recommended De Niese needed vocal rest in order to fully recover.

Toomey is a Ryan Opera Center soprano who has served as De Niese’s understudy and replaced the soprano in the role of Musetta earlier this month on Jan. 10.

At the Lyric Opera she has performed First Lady in “The Magic Flute,” alongside Lawrence Brownlee in the Harris Theater’s Beyond the Aria recital series. She also understudied Countess Ceprano in “Rigoletto,” Ortlinde in “Die Walküre,” and Fiordiligi in “Così Fan Tutte.”

Toomey joins Maria Agresta, who sings Mimì and Michael Fabiano, who takes on the role of Rodolfo.
