Ann Hallenberg, Christophe Dumaux, Deborah Cachet, Marie-Claude Chappius, Lucía Caihuela Headline Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci’s 2022 Season
By David SalazarThe Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci has unveiled its 2022 season, which is set to run between June 10-26, 2022.
For the purposes of this article, our focus will be solely on vocal and operatic works.
Soprano Deborah Cachet will headline “Departing for Kythera” with Les Arts Florissants under Paul Agnew. The program will feature music by Blow, Locke, Lully, Händel, Rameau, and Grabu, among others.

Mezzo-soprano Marie-Claude Chappius and Ensemble Claudiana under Luca Pianca will perform in “At the Heart of the Alps.” The showcase will feature music from Switzerland.

Soprano Sophie Junker, mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg, and countertenor Christophe Dumaux will perform arias and duets by Händel, Porpora, and Marcello alongside Il Pomo d’Oro. Francesco Corti conducts.

There will be a production of Scarlatti’s “I portentosi effetti della Madre Natura” starring Rupert Charlesworth, Filippo Mineccia, Roberta Mameli, Maria Ladurner, Niccolò Porcedda, Dana Marbach, and João Fernandes. Dorothee Oberlinger leads Ensemble 1700 with Emmanuel Mouret as the stage director.

Michele Pasotti leads “In Othello’s Footsteps” with sopranos Francesca Cassinari and Alena Dantcheva, and tenors Gianluca Ferrarini and Massimo Altieri.

Soprano Hana Blaziková and Les Passions de l’Âme will perform music by Monteverdi, Händel, Locatelli, and Marcello focused around the theme of “Ariadne on Naxos & Crete.”

“Pfaueninselgeschicten” will feature a series of short excerpts performed by such artists as Laura Orueta, Dietrich Henschel, Adrian Schvarzstein, Thomas Höft, and Didac Cano, among others.

Huelgas Ensemble will perform music by Perotinus and Brumel in a performance entitled “Notre-Dame de Paris.”

Hermann Max will conduct Reichardt’s “Die Geisterinsel.” The opera will star Marie Heeschen, Veronika Winter, Marie Luise Werneburg, Simon Bode, Ekkehard Abele, Tom Sol, Jörg Hempel, Matthias Vieweg, and Michael Tietz.

Pedro Memelsdorff leads a music performance of music by Pergolesi, Paisiello, Duni, Gossec, and Dalayrac. There will be a Messe en cantiques, French-Guyana. The showcase will star Arlequin Philosophe with such vocal soloists as Francesca Benitez, Belén Vaquero, Markéta Cukrová, Yannis François, Luca Cervoni, and Marco Saccardin.

L’Apothéose, featuring soprano Lucía Caihuela, will perform in “Spaniards in Arcardia.” The showcase will feature music by Corselli, Martín y Coll, Facco, Guerrero, Hernando, and Francés de Irabarren.

Mezzo-soprano Maite Beaumont joins forces with Al Ayre Español in a program featuring music by Literes and Händel.

Les Talens Lyriques will present Pallavicino’s “Le Amazzoni nell’isole fortunate.” The work will star Axelle Fanyo, Clara Guillon, Eleonore Gagey, Marthe Davost, Anara Khassenova, Marco Angiolini, and Olivier Cesarini. Christophe Rousset conducts a production directed by Nicola Raab.

Closing out the festival is Purcell’s “The Indian Queen,” which stars Teresa Paz, Leticia Trueba, Samantha Correa, Adalis Santiesteban, Teresa Yanet Pérez, Bryam López, Leonardo Barquilla, Yunié Gainza, Ahmed Gómez, and Jacqueline Carbonell. Teresa Paz conducts the Conjunto de Música Antigua and Ars Longa de la Habana. Luis Ernesto Doñas directs.
