The Semperoper Dresden has announced that the Oct. 28, 2020 recital of German soprano Anja Harteros has been canceled.

In a press release, the company stated, “in the view of the current COVID-19 situation in Germany, the soprano very much regrets having to cancel her appearance at the Semperoper out of caution.”

Harteros is scheduled to return to the stage in February 2021, in the role of Elisabeth in Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” at the Bayerische Staatsoper, before taking on her signature Tosca alongside Jonas Kaufmann and Sir Bryn Terfel in Salzburg on May 24, 2021.

Germany has seen a fast and steady rise in COVID-19 cases in the last few weeks, with new daily cases reaching a new high of 7,830 cases.
